I can't believe
the first five weeks of school have flown by so quickly. All of the
history classes have begun to investigate the persons, places and events
that have influenced our world.
The fifth grade began their study of
the Western Hemisphere with an emphasis on the early history of Canada.
We learned why the first persons traveled to Canada, wherethey settled,
and how they survived. We also studied the struggle between England
and France over control of North Amerira and the consequences of England's
victory in the French and Indian War. We will continue to study Canada,
Central America and South America as the year progresses.
In the sixth grade World Cultures Class
we began the year with our study of Ancient Egypt. We still marvel at
the accomplishments of the great civilation that flourished 5,000 years
ago.
We continued our study with another great
civilization that emerged around the same time as the Egyptions. The
people of Mesopotamia, especially the Sumerians and Babylonians, contributed
much to human development. Soon, we will begin to learn about the Ancient
Greeks and Romans.
In the seventh grade World Cultures Class
we began the year with our study of World War I and World War II. These
wars were the defining events of the 20th century. As part of our study,
we also tried to analyze the causes and consequences of these great
struggles.
We will continue our study of World Cultures
with an emphasis on the history of the Middle East and Africa.
In the eighth grade, we have begun our
study of American History with the settlement of the 13 original colonies.
Throughout the year, we will also investigate and analyze the American
War for Independence, the Constitution, major events leading to the
Civil War, the Civil War, and significant persons and happenings in
the 20th century.
In the 7th grade religion, we will be
spending the year in a detailed study of the New Testament. We will
stress the four gospels and the letters of St. Paul. We will also discuss
some important moral issues that we face in our contemporary society.
In the 8th grade, we opened the year
studying morality and church history. The church history course will
take us through both the high and low points of the evolution of the
Catholic Church.
The 8th grade is also preparing for the
Annual Reading Competition to be held at Fretz at the beginning of November.
In an effort to foster and better understand
the democratic process we have decided to revive the Student Council.
The class of 2007 did a great job adapting the U.S. Constitution to
meet our needs. We will use it as a fountain for our student government.
Fall intramurals are coming to a close.
The students sportsmanship has been outstanding. Hopefully, everyone
has enjoyed himself/herself the last couple of weeks.
If I can ever be of any help to you or
your child, please let me know.
